The Oshawa Generals will host the Owen Sound Attack in an afternoon, Family Day affair today at the General Motors Centre. This will be the second and final meeting between these two teams this season.
The Generals won the last meeting between these two teams, thanks to a Jalen Smereck overtime goal to lift the Generals to a 5-4 victory. Anthony Cirelli, Domenic Commisso, Kenny Huether and Lukas Lofquist each recorded two points in the win. Logan Gauthier started in the Generals net but was replaced by Jeremy Brodeur after allowing three goals on 14 shots. In 45:38 of relief duty, Brodeur stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn the win. The Attack were led in the game by former General, Josh Sterk, who chipped in three assists in the losing effort. Thomas Schemitsch and Bryson Cianfrone each recorded one goal and one assist in the game. Owen Sound received a good goaltending performance from Michael McNiven in the overtime loss, stopping 29 shots.
Owen Sound is entering Oshawa riding a brief two-game winning streak after defeating the Flint Firebirds 5-4 on Saturday. Nick Suzuki chipped in two goals and one assist while Santino Centorame and Tyler MacArthur added two assists each. Daniel Dekoning started in the Attack net, stopping 33 shots to pick up his eighth win of the season. The Attack are led in scoring by Cianfrone with 39 points and currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference.
The Generals are looking to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to the Ottawa 67’s on Friday night when they host the Attack today. Huether had a strong performance for the Generals, firing seven shots on the 67’s net. Mitchel Vande Sompel chipped in five shots of his own from the Generals blue line. Brodeur made the start in net, his fifth consecutive, stopping 32 of 34 shots. The Generals are led in scoring by captain Cirelli and hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference heading into today’s action.
Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. as the Generals look to get back in the win column against the Attack.
