Generals Dylan Roobroeck and Beckett Sennecke each had a two-point evening while forward Connor Lockhart was the overtime hero. Jacob Oster stopped 39 of 42 shots to keep the team alive for almost 80 minutes of play.
It was right at the 10-minute mark when Oshawa grabbed their second penalty kill of the evening and Ottawa capitalized for the first goal of the game. The third game in a row when the 67’s opened the scoring, and it was Braeden Kressler who got his fifth of the playoffs after hopping on a juicy rebound off of Oster’s pad.
The Generals got their second power play of the evening and with 4:35 left on the clock in period one, Roobroeck grabbed a goal from the slot after a pass from Beckett Sennecke to tie the game.
With 6:21 on the second-period clock, Henry Mews gained the lead for Ottawa after a fake to move past the Generals’ defenceman and a rifle in the slot to make it 2-1 67’s. The play was challenged for goalie interference, yet the goal remained.
9:20 to go in the third frame, Ben Danford got his second postseason goal of his career for the second game in a row after a quick shot that went right past MacKenzie and found the back of the net. Assisted by Roobroeck for his second point of the night, he took the puck around the net and found Danford wide open who one-timed the puck to tie the game at two.
About two and a half minutes later, Dallas Stars commitment Connor Punnett gained the Generals’ lead after a rocket on the far side of MacKenzie. Stuart Rolofs fired the puck just wide of the net which banked off the boards and landed on Punnett’s stick after he crept in for a wide-open Ottawa net, sending the score up 3-2.
Just over two minutes to go, Kressler evened up the score at three after being left all alone in front for a rebound off of Mew’s original shot for his sixth of the playoffs and second of the night.
Connor Lockhart finally sealed the deal at the 2:55 second mark of the fourth period. Back-and-forth action on both ends for almost an entire extra frame, Danford saw Lockhart up the ice and fired the pass to his stick, where he moved into the Ottawa zone and sent a shot straight past MacKenzie for the 4-3 victory.
The Generals return to TD Place for Game Four of the series where they have a chance to sweep the 67’s and move onto the next round of the playoffs.
