Round 1 Game 6: Generals end series with 3-0 win in Barrie
Barrie, Ont. – The Oshawa Generals and Barrie Colts have wrapped up the Round 1 series after a 3-0 Gens victory.
The Sadlon Arena was jam-packed as the Gens and Colts met for the tenth time this season, and there was no shortage of red jerseys in the Barrie barn.
The Oshawa Generals’ first goal was just five minutes into the first period after Luca D’Amato fired a shot from the blue paint, and Cal Ritchie was there to cause chaos in front. The goal was given to D’Amato and then to Ritchie for the deflect, but ultimately the shot was deemed as D’Amato’s second of the postseason. Regardless of the credit, the Generals wrapped up the period up by one based on the play.
With 12:09 on the clock in the second frame, Oshawa native Luke Torrance grabbed his second of the playoffs after a smooth deke on Hillebrandt for a wide-open net. Torrance began the play by winning a dirty battle in the offensive corner, which led to Beckett Sennecke picking up the loose put and throwing it back to Ben Danford who went tape to tape with Torrance in front of the crease. With a little move to get Hillebrandt out of position, the Generals took the lead by 2.
The final frame was an uneventful one with mutual action on both ends. At the six-minute mark, the Colts thought they had scored, but the play was immediately under review and the action of kicking was how it went past Oster, leaving the score still at 2-0 for the Generals.
In the last couple minutes, Generals were short-handed when former Colts captain, Connor Punnett sealed the deal with an empty netter to take the win home. Jacob Oster stood on his head tonight and sent the team home with the high spirits of advancing to Round 2.
Tickets for Round 2 will be on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. on oshawagenerals.com or at the Ticket Office.
