Round 1 Game 2: Gens tie series at one with victory at home
Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals bounce back to take game two 5-4 over the Barrie Colts.
Matthew Buckley had a big game, earning himself the first star and scoring a pair of goals on one shift, Jacob Oster was in the net stopping 24 of the 28 shots.
Things got going early in this one, as the Generals took a penalty 20 seconds into the game and Barrie took full advantage as Riley Patterson scored on the first Barrie shot making it one nothing.
The Gens would get on the board short-handed as Calum Ritchie knocked the puck forward to Beckett Sennecke who went in all alone making a nice move to the backhand before lifting it over the Barrie goalie tying the game at 1-1.
Oshawa would get their first lead of the series when Sennecke dropped the puck to Dylan Roobroeck who fired a shot past the Colts’ keeper making it 2-1 Gens.
But less than 30 seconds later, the Colts would respond as Zach Wigle found Beau Jelsma who beat Oster over the blocker to make it a 2-2 game.
It took almost the whole second period but Oshawa would get the lead back this time on a 5-on-3 as Connor Lockhart found Matthew Buckley hammered a one-timer into the net making it 3-2 Gens.
On the same powerplay, Buckley would strike again as he got to his spot and this time it was Luca D’Amato setting him up as he blasted home for his second of the game, making it 4-2.
Barrie would cut the lead in half when Bode Stewart cut through the slot, falling in the process, but finding a way to slide the puck into the net cutting the Oshawa lead to 4-3.
Six minutes into the third period, the Colts would once again tie the game up when Riley Patterson picked up his second of the game, making it tied at 4-4.
It did not take long for Oshawa to get the lead back as the puck came to Luke Torrance in front of the net and after his first shot was denied he found the rebound on his net and buried it giving the Gens a 5-4 lead.
