Jacob Oster named OHL’s Goaltender of the Week
Oshawa, Ont. – Oshawa Generals Jacob Oster has been named OHL’s Goaltender of the Week for the fifth time this season and second time during the postseason. Based on his performances this past weekend during the Eastern Conference Finals, Oster has two games played, gone 2-0, with a 1.00 GAA, .958 SV%, gaining 1 shutout, and made 46 total saves.
On April 23rd, Oster was announced as the 2023-24 recipient of the Jim Rutherford Trophy, awarded annually to the OHL’s Goaltender of the Year. There is no doubt that Oster has been outstanding this entire season, leading his team through a 12-game win streak to wrap up the regular season games and then earning 10 wins out of 12 games played during the postseason.
The 20-year-old Ottawa native earned the Goaltender of the Week title after kicking off the start of the East Conference Finals against North Bay at the TCC last Friday. Oster let two goals in by the Battalion, but quickly switched gears and had a lights-out performance for the remaining duration of the game, stopping 24 shots in a row and helping get his team to a 4-2 victory and take Game One of Round Three.
Game Two came quickly after an evening off and Oster continued to represent his A-game last Sunday. The 6’3 netminder earned his second shutout in his postseason career after a 3-0 success by the Generals. Oster stopped 22 shots in the triumph and sent Oshawa up in the series by two.
Deemed as the best goaltender of the OHL, Oster has been remarkable during the Generals’ playoff run. He will need to continue doing what he’s doing in order to help push his team through Round Three and to the OHL Championship. Right now, the Eastern Conference Finals Series sits at 2-0 in favour of Oshawa, and Game Three will be tonight, April 29th at 7 p.m. at the North Bay Memorial Gardens.
