Generals make two selections at 2023 CHL Import Draft
Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals made two selections in the 2023 CHL Import Draft, selecting Rasmus Kumpulainen with the 12th pick and David Svozil with the 57th pick. Originally slated to select 13th overall and 73rd overall, a number of teams ahead of the Generals passed on their pick resulting in the Generals moving up the draft board.
Kumpulainen, the 2005-born centre is from Lahti, Finland, and spent the 2022-2023 season with the Pelicans Lahti U20 of the U20 Finnish League. In 41 games, Kumpulainen scored 11 goals and added 23 assists. He has also spent time on the international stage, representing Finland at the U18 level as an assistant captain. At the U18 World Championships, he scored three goals and two assists in five games.
Kumpulainen is a Minnesota Wild prospect, recently taken 53rd overall by the Wild at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft last week.
Svozil, the 2006-born defenceman is from Prerov, Czechia, and spent the 2022-2023 season with Ilves Tampere U20 of the U20 Finnish League. In 23 games, Svozil scored four goals and added three assists. He also spent time with the Czechia U17 national team where he scored three goals and seven assists over 21 games.
He is the brother of former Regina Pat’s assistant captain and defenceman Stanislav Svozil. S. Svozil is a Columbus Blue Jackets prospect and was taken 69th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
David Svozil is eligible for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
