GAME RECAP: GENS 5 STING 3
The Oshawa Generals were in Sarnia tonight looking to bounce back from last nights loss to the Windsor Spitfires by beating the Sting on their two game Western road trip. These teams met earlier this season in Oshawa where the Gens came out with the 6-2 win, something coach Bob Jones would like to see happen again. After being held to just one goal on 27 shots last night the Gens offense was looking to come out firing against a Sarnia team that has given up the fifth most goals in the league.
1st
Jeremy Br0deur got the start between the pipes for the Gens looking to rebound from last night’s performance and was tested early as a Sting pass went off a linesman’s skate and almost crept by him. Five minutes into the period the Gens caught a bad break as Riley Stillman was knocked into Brodeur throwing him off and Rymsha put the puck in off a rebound to make it 1-0 for the home team. The Sting doubled their lead on the power play as Ruzicka got his own rebound and put it by Brodeur. With just under two minutes remaining Kenny Huether put the Gens on the board with a solo effort to crash the Sting net and put the puck into an open net off his own rebound. At the end of 20 minutes the Gens trail 2-1, and Brodeur was looking for more support from his team after being outshot 14-9.
2nd
The Gens came out firing to start the period, but it was the Sting that scored first on the power play as Kyrou beat Brodeur high glove side just seven seconds into the man advantage to put the Sting back up by two goals. The Gens cut back into the lead as Domenic Commisso backhanded the puck into the back of the net for his 16th after a great stretch pass from Jack Studnicka. With the assist Studnicka extended his point streak to four games. Four minutes later the puck found its way to Renars Krastenbergs who slotted it by Fazio to tie things up at 3-3. On the goal Huether got his second point of the game with a crucial assist and Mason Kohn got his second assist of the game. At the end of two periods of play the game was tied 3-3 with the Gens having turned it around in the shots category leading 26-23.
3rd
The Gens came out with a point to prove as they outshot the Sting 7-2 in the first half of the period in which Medric Mercier blasted a rocket from the blue line to complete the comeback for the Gens and get his team leading 19th goal. On the goal Commisso got his second point of the game while Brodeur got recorded his second assist of the season. With eight minutes remaining the Gens added to their lead after Eric Henderson finished off some beautiful passing from Stunicka and Mercier. The Gens held on for the 5-3 win in which seven Gens players finished with a multi-point night in the season sweep of the Sting.
The Generals are back home tomorrow when they take on the North Bay Battalion on Superhero night in Oshawa presented by 94.9 The Rock and look to end the weekend with a home win. 94.9 The Rock wants to send you to the movies to see upcoming Superhero movies.
