Dylan Roobroeck named Cogeco’s OHL Player of the Week
Oshawa, Ont. – For the second time in two months, New York Rangers prospect Dylan Roobroeck has been named the Cogeco’s OHL Player of the Week. Roobroeck has recorded six points in two games, with two goals and four assists.
The General’s forward has been an offensive asset during this season and the postseason. Currently, the 6’7 centreman has piled up 14 points in eight playoff games as the Generals beat out the Barrie Colts and are almost at the midway point of their Second-Round series with the Ottawa 67’s.
Opening the Round Two series against Ottawa at the Tribute Communities Centre, Roobroeck picked up a four-point evening in front of his home crowd last Friday, Apr.12th. With three assists and one goal, Roobroeck was named the second star of the evening as he led his team to a 4-3 victory and got a piece of each goal along the way. Defenceman Luca D’Amato’s point shot was deflected in front of the net by Roobroeck finding its way past Collin MacKenzie, which opened the Generals’ scoring and tied the game at 1-1, which forced the Generals into some serious momentum. With three assists following goal scorers Beckett Sennecke, and Calum Ritchie with two, Roobroeck was the last man to make a play with those pucks before setting up his linemates for success.
The 195-pound London, ON native wrapped up his weekend again on home ice for Game Two in front of GensNation to see the 6-1 victory. Roobroeck was named the game’s third star after a goal and an assist. This time, it was D’Amato on the doorstep to help Roobroeck’s goal when he went end-to-end and finished it off with a wrist shot past MacKenzie. Roobroeck found Sennecke for the final highlight-reel goal of the game after a tape-to-tape find in the neutral zone and Sennecke went full force with speed to deke out MacKenzie and pushed the final score to 6-1 and lead the series at 2-0 in favour of Oshawa.
Roobroeck and the Generals will be in Ottawa this week for Games Three and Four to determine the rest of their series fortune. Stay tuned for more information and updates as they come for your next chance to see this week’s Cogeco’s OHL player of the week back at the TCC.
