Cal Ritchie named OHL’s Player of the Month
Oshawa, Ont., – For the first month of 2024, Generals’ Calum Ritchie has been named OHL’s Player of the Month.
Despite being out for the first month of the season with an upper-body injury, Ritchie is leading the team with 47 points in just 28 games. In January, the first-line centreman has racked up a total of nine goals, 17 assists, and 26 points with +19 in the span of 13 games. Going into February, Ritchie is riding a point streak with 12 points in five games.
The 2005 Oakville, ON, native is on his third season with the Generals. Drafted in the first round of the 2021 OHL Selection Draft, he was picked up immediately, being second overall. Last June, he was a part of the 2023 NHL Draft, selected in round one, 27th overall by the Colorado Avalanche. As the fourth OHLer taken in the 2023 NHL Draft, this season, he has been the top performer of the four.
The players, staff, and community quickly learned that the 6’2 forward was one to rely on in two just seasons, as this year he proudly wears an ‘A’ on his sweater, reflecting his leadership abilities, keen hockey knowledge, and smart decision-making both on and off the ice.
Your next chance to see Ritchie in action on home ice will be this Sunday, Feb. 4th as Oshawa hosts East Division rivals, the Brantford Bulldogs. Grab your tickets here.
