2023-2024 Training Camp: Day One Recap
Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals 2023-2024 Training Camp opened on Monday with the first of four intrasquad scrimmages.
The first scrimmage took place on Monday evening, from 6:15-7:30 and featured 49 players broken into two teams, Team Andreychuk and Team Lindros. On Monday, it was Team Andreychuk getting the first win of the week, taking a 4-1 victory.
It was returning forward Ethan Toms, of Team Lindros, who got the scoring started in this one. The 4th round selection from 2022 broke down the ice and scored quickly on Generals goaltender Jacob Oster.
The three goalies for Team Andreychuk quickly stole the show for the rest of the scrimmage. Between Oster, Noah Bender, and Cole Scullion, the trio allowed only one goal on 24 shots.
Thanks to the effort of their goalies, Team Andreychuk could turn to offense. They got their scoring started off the slick moves of returning sophomore defenceman, David Bedkowski. The 2022 2nd rounder deked around Team Lindros goalie Carter Bickle for a pretty goal to tie the game.
Following a break to flood the ice, newly acquired Nikita Tarasevich saw his first offensive results wearing the Generals’ colours. The speedy winger used his quickness to beat multiple Team Lindros defencemen to score two goals in quick succession. Tarasevich’s pair gave Team Andreychuk their first lead of the scrimmage – and they never looked back.
Despite an offensive push by Team Lindros, the trio of goaltenders in white continued to stand tall.
In the dying seconds of the final frame, Ben Kozyra scored his first at camp into the empty cage. Kozyra was selected in the 14th round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
