Oshawa Generals 2024 Training Camp: Day 3 Recap
Oshawa, Ont. – Day three of our 2024 Training Camp has wrapped up, featuring two public on-ice sessions with exciting scrimmages between Team Lindros and Team Orr. In the afternoon, the players born in 2008 had their exit meetings, which narrowed the roster for the second scrimmage at 3:45 pm.
Aug 28: Lindros vs. Orr — Scrimmage #4 of Training Camp
Team Lindros made a strong start, with Owen Griffin of the Generals scoring the opening goal by burying a rebound top shelf, just like he did yesterday.
The White Team secured their second goal, thanks to Ryan Hodkinson from St. Mary’s Lincoln. He received a perfect pass across the slot from Ben Kozyra and skillfully deked out goaltender Owen MacLean for a gorgeous backhand finish.
Griffin struck again, extending his team’s lead to three with a powerful shot that knocked off the water bottle that was settled on the net.
Maple Leafs’ commitment, Ben Danford, added another goal for Team Lindros, converting a rebound from Matt Buckley to push the lead to a commanding 4-0.
Brooks Rogowski further increased the lead to five after a series of bounces in the crease that MacLean couldn’t handle alone.
In the second period, both teams made goalie changes: Tim Dolan replaced Owen MacLean for Team Orr, while Reed Straus took over for Hayden Sabourin.
Team Orr made their presence felt with Adam Culmone’s initial shot cutting through traffic, which was deflected by Rocco Bigioni.
Kassius Peters of Team Orr took a one-on-two chance against Straus, and although his shot was initially saved, Jonathon Herrington and Culmone were quick to follow up and capitalize, bringing the score to 5-2.
Luca Marrelli unleashed a slap shot that resulted in a broken stick and a loose puck. Herrington seized the opportunity, finding Brady Smith open for a top-shelf one-timer.
Shortly after, Matt Buckley delivered a stunning backhand shot past Dolan, widening the gap to 6-3.
To close the second frame, a quick turn-over on Team Orr’s end stemmed a pickup by Jordan Laroda and a quick snap made it 7-3 for Team Lindros.
40 seconds into the third, Gens’ Luke Torrance grabbed one for Team Orr after picking up his own rebound for a 7-4 game.
A far pass from David Bedkowski to the stick of Buckley with nobody to defend, earned Team Lindros an 8-4 lead with 15 minutes to go.
Griffin pushed the score to nine for Lindros with a shot that knocked off the glove of Dolan and took advantage of an open net.
Team Lindros peaked to double digits after Hodkinson pushed the puck through Dolan’s five-hole, while seconds later Matt Buckley deposited another for an 11-4 lead to seal the deal for the morning’s scrimmage.
Aug 28: Lindros vs. Orr — Scrimmage #5 of Training Camp
Bedkowski wasted no time getting the afternoon scrimmage underway. He handled the puck across the blueline, finding an opening for a shot that slipped past Oster’s glove, giving Team Orr a 1-0 lead.
Peters quickly responded for Team Orr, charging the net and tipping the puck in behind Sabourin to level the score at 1-1.
Rogowski of Team Lindros put his team ahead 2-1, following a scramble in front of Oster’s net and scoring with a deft tip-in.
Team Lindros further extended their lead to 3-1 when Griffin seized a loose puck in front of the net and buried it.
Danford earned an empty net goal for Team Lindros with about a minute remaining, while the score wrapped up at 4-2 after a snipe from Team Orr’s Harrison Franssen.
Tomorrow our final scrimmage of Training Camp is at 10:45 am.
