IceDogs top Colts in Shootout, Niagara 4 Barrie 3
The Niagara IceDogs needed a shootout, but they beat the Barrie Colts 4-3 Thursday night at the Meridian Centre.
The only goal of the first period came off a redirected point shot by Kevin Labanc to give the Colts a 1-0 on the power play.
Josh Ho-Sang tied the game 3:15 into the second period with a power play goal of his own, but Andrew Mangiapane restored the lead for the Colts, making it 2-1. With less than a minute to go in the middle frame, Mikkel Aagaard beat Colts goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood for his 14th goal of the season to tie the game 2-2.
Cordell James scored a shorthanded tally at 8:00 of the third to give the Colts a 3-2 lead, but Jordan Maletta answered with his 22nd goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. Overtime was needed to settle this one.
Both teams exchanged chances, but the extra frame solved nothing. Andrew Mangiapane scored for the Colts in the shootout, but Cody Payne kept it going and Maletta got the winner in the ninth round.
Brandon Hope made 26 saves in the win for the IceDogs. They are now just one point behind the Ottawa 67’s for fourth in the Eastern Conference.
