Westland Insurance – Community Player of the Month – September
The Barrie Colts are proud to announce that Beau Akey and Beau Jelsma have been named the Westland Insurance Community Players of the Month for September!
Akey & Jelsma partnered last season with Big Brother Big Sister Barrie creating the “Beau’s Buddies” program which brought families and children out to Colts games with a unique experience during warmup. The program went so well last that both players and BBBS Barrie are excited to announce the return for the 2023-24 season!
“I’m super excited to be a part of Beaus Buddies again this year with Akey. Our goal last year was to have the kids out and show them what it’s all about to be a Barrie Colt. I’m grateful to be able to do the same this season and it’s truly awesome that we’re able to help. I can’t wait to see the kids on the bench again and create more memories with them.” Commented Colts forward, Beau Jelsma.
” It’s great to be able to continue to help and be more involved in the community here in Barrie. I’m looking forward to another year of meeting new people, seeing new smiles, and having fun at the rink again with the program.” Added Colts defenceman, Beau Akey.
Both Akey and Jelsma are playing in their third season as members of the Colts. Both players have been key contributors on and off the ice, participating in other community initiatives such as school and charity visits.
