OHL ACADEMIC SPOTLIGHT: ETHAN CARDWELL
Eighteen-year-old Barrie Colts Forward Ethan Cardwell worked hard during his time in Saginaw and Barrie, completing his secondary education online through Blyth Academy and his hometown high school. Through his school years, Ethan received many accolades associated with his education, including: Academic Student of the Year (grade 8), Honour Roll (grades 9-12) and Academic Player of the Month (2020).
As a new graduate, Ethan is pursuing post-secondary options. He recently enrolled online through Athabasca University in courses such as Entrepreneurship and Business. Ethan believes that both of these courses will teach fundamental life skills.
Cardwell is already putting his business and entrepreneurial mind into action. Through the COVID-19 quarantine, Ethan teamed up to Co-Host a new sports podcast, Showbound: The Podcast. Approximately two weeks ago, the podcast went live. It includes hockey world stories, interviews and news surrounding the sports industry. Showbound can be heard on multiple platforms, including: Apple Podcast, Spotify and Youtube. Follow Ethan’s journey as Co-Host on Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok. As of today, Showbound is the 7th biggest hockey podcast in Canada.
“My courses will teach me how to expand our podcast. I want to learn how to develop new ideas, start a brand, create merchandise channels, build sponsor relationships, manage money for marketing and turn profits,” said Ethan enthusiastically.
Ethan plans to continue his post-secondary education for as long as possible, even if it takes him a little longer due to balancing hockey and academia. “Regardless of whether I end up in the NHL or at U SPORTS, I intend on completing my University degree,” commented Cardwell.
Cardwell closed with “the people who think unlike any others are the ones to succeed. I want to get ahead in life by thinking outside the box.”
Sponsored by Teachers Life, we are honoured to recognize the story of Ethan Cardwell’s academic success and achievements. We have no doubt that Ethan will continue to do impactful, innovative work.
