Colts get Shutout by Petes
Saturday night, the Colts dropped their second straight pre-season game at home against the Peterborough Petes with a score of 8-0.
The Petes got off to a quick start nearly halfway through the first period when Igor Martynov netted the first goal for the Petes. C.J. Clarke and Semyon Der-Arguchintsev drew the assists on the fisrt goal. Only 30 seconds later, the Petes extended their lead to 2-0 when Matyas Svoboda scored his second goal of the pre-season. Steven Lorentz and Declan Chisholm grabbed the assists.
The Colts would get out of the first period down 2-0, and trailing 9-8 in shots. But it wouldn’t take long for the Petes to extend their lead even more.
In the first 7:19 of the second period, the Petes would put three goals past David Ovsjannikov in the Colts goal. Zach Gallant, Jonathan Ang, and Semyon Der-Argchintsev all scored, giving the Petes a 5-0 lead. Ang’s second goal of the game came on the power play, while the other three were even strength goals.
After the 5th Petes goal, Christian Propp replaced Ovsjannikov in goal. But the Petes would keep the pressure up as they blew two goals past Propp in less than 45 seconds. Declan Chisholm would score his first of the pre-season, assisted by Steven Lorentz and Matyas Svoboda, while Kyle Jenkins scored an unassisted goal.
Despite allowing six second period goals, the Colts outshot the Petes 17-11, but couldn’t put one past Scott Smith in goal for Peterborough.
The second half of the period would see some good chances for the Colts, but they would be fighting a big deficit heading into the third period.
The Petes would add another goal in the third period on the power play when Matthew Timms put home his second goal of the pre-season. Steven Lorentz and Kyle Jenkins assisted the power play tally, giving the Petes an 8-0 lead.
The score would stay that way until the final buzzer, as the Petes outshot the Colts 34-26, with the Colts getting one shot in the final 20 minutes. The Colts went 0 for 7 on their power play chances, while the Petes went 2 for 7.
The Colts are back in action for their final pre-season tune-up on Tuesday night at the BMC, as they welcome their divisional rival, the Sudbury Wolves to town.
