Akey & Jelsma Recognized by NHL Central Scouting
Akey & Jelsma named to final NHL Central Scouting Rankings ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, TN.
Both both Beau Akey (33) and Beau Jelsma (190) finished their second season with the Colts by setting a new career high in points while taking on bigger roles.
Akey, who participated in the CHL Top Prospect Game earlier this season, finished the regular season with 47 points (11 Goals, 36 Assists) in 66 games. An increased responsibility this season saw him finish second in points by a 2005-born defenceman in the OHL.
Jelsma, who was previously ranked last season went on to attend the Florida Panthers training camp after not hearing his name called in the 2022 NHL draft. Jelsma would go on to score 30 goals and added 30 assists in 67 games this season. A key contributor in the post-season, he was a part of several timely goals in the Colts’ playoff push adding 11 points (5 Goals, 6 Assists) in 9 games.
Both Akey and Jelsma partnered up this season with Big Brothers Big Sisters Barrie and created the “Beau’s Buddies” program. The program saw families attend Saturday night Colts games and take in warmup from the bench level.
The NHL Draft is set for June 28th & 29th in Nashville, TN.
