The Barrie Colts are looking for billet homes in the Barrie area for the 2024-2025 season. Billet families play an extremely important role in the success of a player, on and off the ice. Billeting is a vital aspect of the Ontario Hockey League experience, and we are looking for a friendly, safe and healthy environment for our players.
Although we might like to believe that hockey is the sole focus of our players’ lives, we have to be realistic and say that it is only one aspect of a much larger life. When a young man becomes a member of the Barrie Colts Hockey Club he does not live on his own.
The Barrie Colts Billet Family Program plays a major role in our team’s success both on and off the ice. It takes special people to open their homes and hearts to our players and we take the utmost care to ensure that our players are placed in friendly, safe and healthy environment. Our hockey club is committed to ensuring billeting is a progressive experience, both for families and the players.
Billet Family Program Requirements
– Each player is to have their own room
– Private desk area for homework etc.
– Parking spot if the player has a vehicle
– Healthy and nutritious food available for players
It is important that the player and the billet family maintain a mutually respectful relationship. The hockey club promotes open communication among the billet family, coaching staff, the player and the player’s family.
When applying to become a billet a Barrie Colts staff member visits the prospective billet’s home and meets with all members of the family to answer any of their questions and to see the room that the player would be using. Only once the home visit is complete and a Police Background Check is done on every adult living in the home, can a family be considered a prospective billet. The biggest factor is to ensure that the player and the billet are well matched, so the transition from home to billet-home is smooth.
There are many benefits to becoming a billet family, which includes two tickets to each home game (4 tickets if there is two players) and various other beneficiaries. These perks however do not equal the overwhelming joy a family receives from opening their hearts and homes to a fine young man who is trying to achieve his dream of playing in the National Hockey League.
We will have team guidelines and policies that the players must follow that will be shared should you become a billet home. If interested please contact Rob Ferguson, Billet Program Coordinator, at [email protected] to fill out an application.
We appreciate all of our current and past billet families for their care and effort put forth for the Barrie Colts Hockey Club, as they are an integral part of our success on and off the ice.
