Troops trade fourth for third in 2007
BRAMPTON, Ont. The Brampton Battalion has traded its fourth-round pick in the Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection on Saturday to the London Knights for their third-round pick in 2007, it was announced Tuesday.rrThe trade reduces the Battalion’s picks in the 15-round proceedings Saturday to 17. After finishing the 2005-06 season with the fourth-highest points total in the 20-team league, the Troops will pick 17th in the first round, scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the first selection by the Sarnia Sting.rrThe Battalion has at least one pick in every round except the 14th, with extra choices in the fifth, seventh and 15th rounds. The Troops will exercise their own pick at No. 17 in all rounds except the fourth, fifth, 10th and 14th.rrThe Battalion holds the fourth-round pick of the Kingston Frontenacs, acquired Jan. 4 in a trade for right winger J.F. Houle.rrIn the fifth round, the Battalion has the Sarnia Sting’s choice, obtained June 30, 2004, as part of a trade for centre Jamie Fraser, and the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors’ pick, acquired last Oct. 10 from the Oshawa Generals for goaltender Kevin Couture. rrSarnia’s seventh-round choice was acquired May 2, 2005, for the Battalion’s seventh-round selection last year, a pick the Sting used to take defenceman Christian Steingraber from the Detroit Honeybaked 89’s.rrThe Battalion also has the Plymouth Whalers’ 10th-round choice, received Nov. 11, 2003, for the OHL rights to defenceman Dan Marziani, and Sarnia’s 15th-round selection, acquired last Sept. 16 for defenceman Scott Boomsma.rrThe OHL Priority Selection, last held in an arena at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre in 2000, will be conducted via the Internet for a sixth consecutive year.r
