Troops ready for busy weekend
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Battalion begins a stretch of three Central Division games in as many days Friday night with a trip to Sudbury to meet the Wolves in Ontario Hockey League action. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Troops, who visit the Barrie Colts on Saturday night before returning to the Brampton Centre to host Sudbury on Sunday, head into the weekend tied for first place in the Central with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors.
The Majors, who dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the visiting Battalion last Sunday, also have three games on tap this week. Toronto travels to Barrie on Thursday night and hosts the Belleville Bulls on Friday night before welcoming the Peterborough Petes on Sunday.
The Battalion and Wolves have met six times this season, with the Troops holding a 5-1-0 won-lost-tied record in the eight-game season series. The Battalion scored a 4-3 victory at the Bunker on Oct. 4 when captain Jay McClement scored with one second left in regulation. Overage forward Scott Rozendal scored three goals to lead the Troops to a 5-3 win at Sudbury on Nov. 8, and sophomore centre Kamil Kreps collected a pair of goals as Brampton shut out the visiting Wolves 4-0 on Nov. 24. Sudbury claimed its only victory of the season over the Troops at home on Dec. 15, scoring a pair of early first-period goals on the way to a 5-3 win. Tyler Harrison scored twice in a 4-2 Battalion win at the Bunker on Jan. 19 and, in the last meeting, at Sudbury on Feb. 14, rookie netminder Kevin Couture made 43 saves as the Troops edged the Wolves 2-1.
The Battalion’s game at Barrie will be shown live in the Brampton area on Rogers Cable 10 starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. An audio simulcast of the Rogers feed will be available on BattalionHockey.com.
