Troops change start time to avoid Olympic clash
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The start time of the Brampton Battalion’s home game against the Owen Sound Attack on Sunday, Feb. 28, has been changed to 12 p.m. from 2 p.m., the Ontario Hockey League club announced Tuesday.
The change was made to avoid a conflict with the gold medal game in the men’s hockey competition at the Winter Olympic Games at Vancouver, which is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach, and Dale DeGray, general manager of the Attack, worked to find a mutually agreeable time.
“We’re pleased that Owen Sound agreed to change the start time this far in advance,” said Battalion president Mike Griffin. “It provides enough lead time for our staff to communicate with people who already have tickets, including season ticketholders, advance online sales and a significant number of group-sale tickets that have been distributed.
“I’m sure most hockey fans in this area are expecting Canada to reach the final, so hopefully we can enjoy the Owen Sound-Battalion game and have plenty of time to gather with family and friends to watch Canada in the gold medal game.”
The Battalion’s meeting with the Attack is one of seven on the OHL schedule that day. Three others also have new start times. The Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, who host the Oshawa Generals, changed to a 12 p.m. start, as did the Niagara IceDogs, who entertain the Ottawa 67’s. A game between the Sudbury Wolves and visiting Windsor Spitfires has been rescheduled for 1 p.m.
