Spitfires up next for Battalion
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Windsor Spitfires make their only visit of the Ontario Hockey League regular season to the Bunker on Sunday to face the Battalion. Game time is 2 p.m.
The Troops, who will be playing their fifth game in eight days, are 1-1-1 since a 9-1 rout of the Peterborough Petes at the Brampton Centre last Sunday. The Battalion faces Windsor off a 5-3 home-ice win over the Erie Otters on Friday night. Scott Rozendal scored two goals to pace the Troops, who moved within a point of the Belleville Bulls for the fifth Eastern Conference playoff spot. Brampton is two points behind Toronto for the fourth conference playoff berth and only five points behind Barrie for the second seed. The Battalion has a game in hand on the Colts.
Sunday’s matinee will be the final game of the Spitfires’ three-game eastern road swing. Windsor, which holds down the fourth Western Conference playoff spot, dropped a 6-3 decision to the ’67s at Ottawa on Friday night and will be at Belleville on Saturday night.
The Troops and Spitfires have met once this season, at Windsor on Oct. 10. Kyle Wellwood, who is with Team Canada at the World Junior Championship at Halifax, scored three goals and added an assist as the Spits edged the Battalion 4-3. Brampton captain Jay McClement, a teammate of Wellwood with the national under-20 squad, was among the Battalion goal scorers.
