Battalion camp action continues
NORTH BAY, Ont. – The North Bay Battalion conducted the third day of its four-day Ontario Hockey League training camp Friday, with 48 players participating in the second intrasquad game at Memorial Gardens.
That was down two from the opener Thursday, as forward Ethan Kirbis, who’s expected to play this season with the Buffalo Regals under-18s, left after Team Green’s morning practice for a tournament at Boston. Veteran forward Brett McKenzie, who rested Thursday, drew into the lineup as a replacement.
Each squad lost one player to injury in the first game, with forwards Stefan Palatsidis of Green and Ryan Nicol of White unable to take to the ice Friday for the three 25-minute periods.
The Green and White benches were run by John Dean and Adam Dennis, Battalion assistant coaches, respectively. Stan Butler, director of hockey operations and head coach, watched with owner Scott Abbott from his box.
The camp, which opened with off-ice activities Wednesday, ends Saturday after a third intrasquad game at 9 a.m. Following the on-ice session, which is open to the public at no charge, the roster is to be cut to the preseason level for the first exhibition game, against the host Sudbury Wolves at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Sudbury visits North Bay at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Andy Baker’s second goal of the game, with 4:14 left in the third period, was the winner as Team White scored the last seven goals for an 8-4 victory over Team Green.
