Aquino returns in Battalion victory
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. Even though he didn’t think his performance was up to the usual standard, Luch Aquino was happy to be back in the Brampton Battalion lineup Friday night.rrAquino returned from a five-game Ontario Hockey League suspension as the Battalion, which plays its third of five consecutive road games against the Sudbury Wolves at 2 p.m. Sunday, rallied to beat the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-3.rrI didn’t really feel too good out there, said overager Aquino, who assisted on a second-period power-play goal by Wojtek Wolski, one of three he scored. rrI was tired and, even though I was practising, it’s a lot different from playing games. It was good to get it out of the way. I’ll be ready Sunday. You always want to play, and it was tough to be suspended. But as tough as it is, you have to ride it out.rrRight winger Aquino was reunited with his customary linemates, centre Wolski and left winger Aaron Snow, who scored the winning goal at 16:06 of the third period.rrI like to be quick and be the first guy on the puck, said Aquino. I don’t mind doing the dirty work to set guys up. It helps Wolski and Snow because it puts pressure on the defence. I don’t think I really did that too well against the Greyhounds, so they picked up the slack for me.rrThe Battalion trailed only 3-2 after two periods despite having been outshot 33-15.rrBetween the second and third periods we were trying to figure out what was wrong with us, said coach Stan Butler, whose Troops lost 5-2 Thursday night to the Windsor Spitfires. rrWe didn’t know if it was bus legs or a lack of competitiveness. But we were only down a goal after two periods and we were a lot better in the third.rrSaid Aquino: Good teams get lucky sometimes. We haven’t been getting many breaks lately.rrThe Battalion heads into the Sudbury game, the last of eight season meetings between the teams, with a won-lost-extended record of 31-21-3 for 65 points, second in the Central Division. Sudbury, which lost 6-4 to the visiting Barrie Colts on Friday night, is six points behind in fourth place.rrWe have a big game against the Wolves, said Butler, whose Troops are 3-3-1 against Sudbury. rrWe’ve got a split on this road trip so far, and if we can go in there and take two points that will be good. We get a day off, and that’ll give us a chance to get reorganized and talk about some things we can do.r
