67’s shut down, shut out Olympiques
The 67’s scored some revenge on Friday night as they downed the Gatineau Olympiques 5-0 in the second game of this season’s inter-league home-and-home series between the clubs.
Sam Bitten scored twice to lead the 67’s over Gatineau in the decisive victory, a little under a month after the Olympiques defeated Ottawa in the first-ever outdoor game for the Barber Poles at TD Place in December.
Olivier Tremblay picked up the shutout win for the visitors, which moves Ottawa back into a tie for sixth place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
The 67’s opened the scoring just before the 13-minute mark of the first period as Bitten gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead. They would extend that lead five minutes later as Austen Keating scored to make it 2-0 heading into the intermission.
Ottawa picked up where it left off in the second as Bitten scored his second of the game 7:37 into the middle frame and Mitchell Hoelscher made it 4-0 two minutes later.
Kody Clark made it 5-0 late in the third period, his second goal against Gatineau in as many games this year.
Tremblay made 20 saves in shutting out Gatineau. Tristan Bérubé stopped 13 of 17 Ottawa shots while splitting duties with William Giroux, who turned away 10 of 11 shots.
The 67’s are back in action Saturday night in Peterborough against the Petes before returning home to host the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) at The Arena at TD Place.
GAME NOTES
- Austen Keating’s goal was the 50th of his OHL career.
- Ottawa D Kevin Bahl fought Gatineau’s in the Shawn Boudrias in the second period. It was Bahl’s second fight of the season and third of his OHL career.
- Keating led the 67’s with five shots on goal Friday night.
- Sasha Chmelevski went 8-for-10 in the faceoff circle for Ottawa.
- The 67’s took just two minor penalties on Friday and killed off both Gatineau powerplays.
