Mooseheads’ Jonathan Drouin named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads is the CHL Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording 10 points in three games including one goal and nine assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 for the week ending January 19.

Drouin helped the Mooseheads pick up three wins last week improving their record to 30-16-0-1 where they lead the QMJHL’s Maritimes Division with 61 points.  All three of his games were multi-point efforts including last Wednesday night playing in his first game since representing Canada at the World Junior Championship where he contributed two assists as part of a 5-1 win over the Charlottetown Islanders.  He finished the week with back-to-back four-point games earning first star honours in both contests including Saturday night with four assists in an 8-1 win over the Rimouski Oceanic, then on Sunday with a goal and three assists in a 9-1 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

Drouin, an 18-year-old from Ste-Agathe, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Mooseheads.  The reigning CHL Player of the Year was selected third overall by the Lightning in the 2013 NHL Draft, and this season is currently tied for eighth in league scoring with 18 goals and 42 assists for 60 points in just 26 games played.

Also considered for the award this week was fellow Canadian National Junior Team member defenceman Derrick Pouliot of the Portland Winterhawks who scored one goal with four assists for five points in two games, while Hunter Garlent of the Peterborough Petes scored four goals and five assists for nine points in three games.
