Student-Athletes of the Month – Maxwell Jardine Profile
Maxwell Jardine joined the Charlottetown Islanders at Christmas during the 2023-24 season and has since become an integral part of the team on the ice, in the dressing room and in the classroom.
From the minute I met Max, I knew he was a mature, hard working and dedicated young man, both on and off the ice. Max took two courses at UPEI during the winter semester as well as a spring course, once the season had ended, to increase his credits towards his degree. Instead of returning home to Miramichi for the summer, Max opted to stay on PEI to be able to have more access to ice and gym time. During this time, Max also played for the Charlottetown Islanders Senior Baseball team. Despite Max being the youngest player on the roster, he played an integral role in that lineup, helping the team capture the championship earlier this fall.
Outside of being a multi-sport athlete, Max attended many different Islanders Hockey community events throughout the summer, truly embracing what it means to be an Islander. Max made such a mark in his half a season with the Islanders that he was rewarded for his leadership and dedication by being given the role of assistant captain for the 2024-25 season. His leadership qualities are not just limited to on ice, however. The defenseman has always shown a positive and dedicated attitude towards his education and has proven to be a self-motivated learner. He has been a great support to his teammates with their education as well, and has shown those around him what is required to excel academically.
This season, Max has partnered with Special Olympics PEI to launch the Special Olympics spotlight program. At each Islanders home game this season, one Special Olympian is invited and spotlighted for all of their achievements throughout the game. Max’s partnership with this program further shows his character and commitment to the community.
Max is now currently over halfway through his first semester at UPEI. He is taking two courses and has maintained over 87% overall in both, recently receiving 90% in his Sociology midterm. Max is enrolled in two more courses for the second semester and will be looking at taking more spring courses as well.
An absolute pleasure to work with, Maxwell can take great pride in being named the Islander’s Student-Athlete of the Month for October.
