Scholastic Players of the Month | Joshua Fleming Profile
When I first met Joshua Fleming, I could already see an exceptional balance and maturity in his way of approaching his studies.
Joshua joined our team last December; he was then playing with a Junior A team in Grand Falls. Before being officially signed with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, he had been called up a few times. When he did, he was always concerned about his schooling. It was important for him, because he was in grade 12 and his goal was to obtain his High School diploma. Playing for two teams and traveling back and forth was stressful at times.
But his positive attitude towards his studies helped him manage his time efficiently with his hockey. Facing new challenges as a first-year university student and attending his first NHL camp as an invite with the Buffalo Sabres this year, Joshua quickly identified the importance of managing his time to stay on schedule with his courses.
Upon his return from Buffalo’s training camp, Josh fully embraced his academic responsibilities with a positive mindset and developed time management strategies to be successful. Every morning, he attends on ice and off ice practices. Afterward, he walks in class.
He does not allow himself to get distracted and always stays focused on the tasks before him. It is noticeable: Joshua uses his time wisely. His work ethic is consistent.
Joshua is also receptive to feedback. He takes responsibility for his work, whether it be asking for help, emailing teachers, or catching up when the team is on the road.
It shows that he takes responsibility for his own learning.
