Scholastic Player of the Month | William Shields Profile
Will Shields is entering his second year as a member of the Cape Breton Eagles after being selected in the first round of the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft.
He has adjusted well to attending classes at Sydney Academy and this year is acting as a mentor for our three first year students at the high school. Will’s time management and positive attitude make him an ideal candidate for our scholastic player of the month award.
With the amount of time we spend on the road Will often takes the time to plan out his studies so he doesn’t fall behind. Sometimes this means studying on the bus or taking advantage of study halls at a hotel. Doing this has allowed him to keep his grades high, while also setting a positive example for those around him.
Currently enrolled in three courses as a full time high school student, Will is on track to graduate with a high school diploma in June 2024. He epitomizes what it means to be a student athlete and is looking forward to entering post-secondary studies at the university level next year.
The skills and experiences of balancing hockey and school thus far for Will has been invaluable. He uses his resources around him when needed and is not nervous to ask questions or for clarity. He is a true example of what it means to be a Cape Breton Eagle!
