Finalists unveiled for the 2020-21 Kevin-Lowe Trophy
Defensemen Justin Barron (Halifax Mooseheads), Louis Crevier (Chicoutimi Saguenéens) and Noah Laaouan (Charlottetown Islanders) are the three nominees for the 2020-2021 Kevin-Lowe Trophy.
The Trophy has been awarded annually to the QMJHL’s best defensive defenseman since 2004-05 and is named after the Quebec Remparts alumnus who played in 1,254 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers. Kevin Lowe is also a seven-time NHL all-star and a six-time Stanley Cup champion.
While Justin Barron’s fourth season in the QMJHL was his most productive one in terms of his point-per-game average, the blueliner was equally solid in his own zone. The Halifax, NS native finished the campaign with eight goals and 31 points in 33 regular season games. He also maintained an even +/- differential while logging heavy minutes for a Mooseheads squad that allowed the second most goals in the league.
The tallest player in the QMJHL this past season, Louis Crevier stood out not only thanks to his size but also thanks to his stellar play on the Chicoutimi blue line. The Quebec City, QC native ended the campaign with six goals, 14 points and a +9 ratio in 26 games. Known for his active stick and heavy bodychecks, the 6’8’’ defenseman also finished with a meager 12 penalty minutes for the East Division champs.
Noah Laaouan was one of the most well-rounded blueliners in the QMJHL in 2020-21. The Halifax, NS product finished his fourth season in the Q with seven goals and 38 points in 39 games. His stellar +33 differential helped the Islanders finish first in the overall standings. This marks the fourth consecutive campaign in which Laaouan has registered a +/- ratio that is superior to +20.
