Sea Dogs open 2015 QMJHL Draft with exceptional pick
15-year-old Joseph Veleno set to join Saint John next season
Sherbrooke, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs wrote a new chapter in the history of the QMJHL on Saturday by making 15-year-old Joseph Veleno, a six-foot 168-pound centre from the Lac St. Louis Lions, the first pick of the 2015 QMJHL Draft at the Palais des Sports Lépold-Drolet in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
On Thursday, Hockey Canada made Veleno the fourth player in the history of the CHL to be granted exceptional status, joining Connor McDavid, John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad and Sean Day. In 2014-2015, Veleno scored 52 points in 41 games with the Lac St. Louis Lions and played for Quebec at the Canada Games.
