Sea Dogs dominate Eagles in game one

A eight goal second period by the defending Memorial Cup champions was the difference as the Saint John Sea Dogs dominated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 13-4 in game one of the best of seven first round playoff series at Harbour Station in Saint John, New Brunswick.
With the win Saint John leads the series one game to none.
Charles Coyle had a six point night for the Sea Dogs has he recorded three goals and three assists while Danick Gauthier added a pair of goals and an assist for Saint John. Charles-Olivier Roussel, Tomas Jurco, Jonathan Huberdeau, Jason Seed, Aidan Kelly, Zack Phillips, Nathan Beaulieu and Stanislav Galiev each scored single markers for Saint John in the win.
Bronson Beaton scored two goals for Cape Breton while Kyle Farrell and William Carrier also found the back of the net for the Screaming Eagles.
The Sea Dogs opened the scoring in the game as Danick Gauthier snipped home a beautiful goal beating Screaming Eagle goaltender Philippe Trudeau at 4:18 of the first period, Tomas Jurco and Kevin Gagné were given the assists.
The Screaming Eagles would tie the game up at one as Kyle Farrell scored his first goal of the playoffs going five-hole Sea Dog goaltender Mathieu Corbiel-Theriault at the 8:12 mark of the opening period, Alexandre Lavoie and Kyle Campbell picked up the helpers.
William Carrier gave the visiting Screaming Eagles a 2-1 lead as he netted his first goal of the playoffs at 11:57 of the first period, Jonathan Brunelle and Kyle Campbell recorded the assists.
Nashville Predator’s prospect Charles-Olivier Roussel tied the game up at two for Saint John as he scored his first goal of the playoffs at the 15:48 mark of the opening frame, Tomas Jurco and Danick Gauthier were awarded with the helpers.
Charles Coyle put the Sea Dogs up by one as he fired home his first goal of the playoffs on the power play at 1:39 of the second period, Nathan Beaulieu and Zack Phillips were given credit for the assists.
Saint John would take a 4-2 lead at 3:31 of the second frame as Tomas Jurco buried his first goal of the playoffs past Philippe Trudeau, Jonathan Huberdeau and Danick Gauthier found the score sheet with the helpers.
Just twenty seconds later, the hometown Sea Dogs took a 5-2 lead as Charles Coyle netted his second goal of the game (second of the playoffs) with the lone assist going to Zack Phillips.
Captain Jonathan Huberdeau put the Port City club up 6-2 as he scored his first goal of the playoffs short-handed at 5:32 of the second period, Charles-Olivier Roussel added the only helper on the goal.
The defending President’s Cup champions did not stop there as Danick Gauthier found the back of the net for his second goal of the game (second of the playoffs) at the 8:57 mark of the middle frame, Jonathan Huberdeau and Tomas Jurco were given credit for the assists.
The Screaming Eagles would cut the Sea Dogs lead as Bronson Beaton scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal (first of the playoffs) at 9:37 of the second period, William Carrier and Jonathan Brunelle picked up the helpers.
Jason Seed made the score 8-3 for Saint John as he fired home his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal (first of the playoffs) at the 10:14 mark of the middle period, Charles Coyle and Ryan Tesink were given the assists.
Saint John was given at 9-3 lead as Charles Coyle completed the hat-trick scoring his third goal of the game (third of the playoffs) at 13:19 of the second period, Zack Phillips and Nathan Beaulieu found the score sheet with the helpers.
Aidan Kelly gave the Sea Dogs a 10-3 lead on the power play at 16:59 of the middle frame as he netted his first goal of the playoffs beating Trudeau, Spencer MacDonald and Jason Seed picked up the assists.
The Screaming Eagles would find the back of the net one more time in the game as Bronson Beaton scored his second goal of the game (second of the playoffs) at 19:45 of the second period, William Carrier and Loic Leduc were given credit for the helpers.
Zack Phillips put Saint John up 11-4 as he fired home his first goal of the playoffs beating William Racicot who replaced Philippe Trudeau at the start of the third period, The goal came at 1:33 of the third period, Charles Coyle and Stanislav Galiev recorded the assists.
Montreal Canadiens prospect Nathan Beaulieu made the score 12-4 as he netted his first goal of the playoffs at the 8:20 mark of the third period, Jason Cameron was awarded with the lone helper.
Saint John did add another goal before the game was over as Stainslav Galiev scored his first goal of the playoffs at 17:38 of the final period, Charles Coyle and Kevin Gagné added the assists.
Mathieu Corbiel-Theriault made 15 saves in the win for Saint John, his record improves to 1-0-0-0 while Philippe Trudeau turned aside 27 of 37 shots before being replaced by William Racicot who stopped 10 of 13 shots in his 20:33 of relief, Trudeau did pick up the loss in goal, his record falls to 0-1-0-0.

QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau in attendance: The commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Mr. Gilles Courteau was on hand for game one of the series between Cape Breton and Saint John. Mr. Courteau awarded the Jean-Rougeau Trophy to the Saint John Sea Dogs on being the 2011-2012 regular season champions.
Eight goal second period by Saint John: The Saint John Sea Dogs exploded for eight goals in the second period leading them to a 13-4 win over the Screaming Eagles on Friday night at Harbour Station. The 13-goal night was the biggest offensive output in Sea Dogs history. The eight goal second period set a team record and tied a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff record.
Beaton scores first QMJHL goal: Cape Breton Screaming Eagle right winger Bronson Beaton scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal on Friday night against the Sea Dogs. Beaton scored at the 9:37 mark of the second period. The 16 year old also netted his second career ‘Q’ goal at 19:45 of the middle frame.
Seed nets first QMJHL goal: Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Jason Seed fired home his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Friday night against the Screaming Eagles. Seed scored at the 10:14 mark of the second period. The 19 year old finished the game with two points and a +4 rating.
Game one seen on Sportsnet: Game one of the series between Cape Breton and Saint John was televised nationally on Sportsnet (Ontario, Pacific and Sens) on Friday night.
