Pistilli and Roy win TELUS player of the week awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, February 18, 2008 Gatineau Olympiques forward Matthew Pistilli and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles goaltender Olivier Roy today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from February 11 to 17.
Pistilli collected an incredible five goals on sixteen shots while contributing eight assists in three Olympiques wins. Moreover, he maintained a +9 rating. The forward played arguably the best game of his career last Friday as he registered a career-high six points in an 8-1 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes. Two days later, he enjoyed a five-point afternoon in a 9-2 win over the Voltigeurs in Drummondville. Pistilli has recorded 74 points in 53 games so far this season.
Claude Giroux (3-9-12) of Gatineau, Cédric Lalonde-McNicoll (5-3-8) of Shawinigan and Tomas Svoboda (6-1-7) of Acadie-Bathurst were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Screaming Eagles backstop Olivier Roy. In two contests, Roy registered two wins, including one by shutout, while posting a 0.50 goals-against-average and .974 save percentage. In his first start on Saturday, he stopped 21 shots in a 2-0 win over the powerful Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He followed that up with a seventeen save effort in a 3-1 victory over the Moncton Wildcats. Roy needs one more win to tie the League record (23) for most wins by a 16-year-old which was set by Lewiston MAINEiacs goaltender Peter Delmas last year.
Drew Paris (1-3-4; +4) of Acadie-Bathurst as well as Patrick Prokop (1-3-4; +5) and Hubert Labrie (0-3-3; +9) of Gatineau were also considered.
