The 2020-21 Denis-Arsenault Trophy awarded
The Denis-Arsenault Trophy is awarded to the Academic Advisor of the Year within the circuit.
This year’s nominees are Julie Bélanger of the Rimouski Océanic, Josée Frenette of the Val-d’Or Foreurs and Ryan MacPherson of the Cape Breton Eagles.
A trained high school teacher, Julie Bélanger has the development of the Rimouski Océanic players at heart. Always present and available, she makes a point of personalizing the academic progress of each player. She constantly carries out rigorous follow-ups with school partners and the QMJHL. Through her educational side, she offers quality supervision to support players according to their profile.
A high school teacher, Josée Frenette is also very involved in her role as an academic advisor to the Foreurs. By her presence, her listening skills and her advice, she accompanies the players on a daily basis so that they can be as successful in their studies as they are on the ice. She also makes sure to maintain constant communication with the various people who revolve around the players, whether it is educational institutions, school partners, the team’s hockey and administrative staff as well as the QMJHL. Josée is a dedicated academic advisor who is well organized and always available to the players. She is a finalist for the Denis-Arsenault Trophy for the second consecutive campaign.
In addition to his role as an academic advisor, Ryan MacPherson is a high school teacher at Sydney Academy. Very involved in the community, he does not hesitate to put the time and effort into supporting the Eagles players with their schoolwork. Like any good leader, he surrounded himself with excellent assistants, Elie Blondin and Gary MacLean, to provide the best possible support for the youngsters. Despite his busy schedule, Ryan always remains available to listen and chat with the players. Ryan also serves as a billet family, reinforcing the bond that he develops with the young men. Ryan is a finalist for the Denis-Arsenault Trophy for a second straight season.
