New rules for the 2014-15 season
The QMJHL would like to inform its fans of the new rules that will be in effect during the games.
ARTICLE 25 – PENALTY SHOT
Now, during a ‘Penalty Shot’ or a ‘Shootout’, the spin move (spin-o-rama) in which the player makes a full 360 ° turn while approaching the goal is not allowed. If a player makes that move during a penalty shot, the referee will stop the play and there will be no goal.
ARTICLE 39 – VIDEO JUDGE
A change was made in the criteria for goal review regarding a goal scored after a ‘distinct kicking motion’ where the player puts the puck into the goal with his skate.
From now on, a puck that goes into the net after being deflected off the skate of an offensive player or deflected off the skate of a player who is on in the process of stopping will be declared a good goal.
Moreover, in the video review process, to help referees determine the legitimacy of any potential goal, the following situation has been added to the list of situations where the video judge has to check to determine if the goal is good.
‘When the puck hits the protective netting, deviates ‘directly‘ on a player or goalkeeper and crosses the goal line without being seen by the referee.’ The goal will be disallowed.
It should however be specified that this situation differs from one where the puck hits the net without being seen by an official and a player takes possession of it before a goal is scored, then the goal will be deemed good.
ARTICLE 85 – OUT OF PLAY PUCKS
This new rule is to create more offense and scoring chances. When the attacking player shoots the puck directly out of the play, a faceoff will be done at a dot in the neutral zone near the offensive zone.
The playing rule specifies that when a SHOT AT THE NET … is taken, the following exceptions apply and, as a result, the ensuing face-off will be conducted at one of the face-off sports in the offensive zone.
In all situations, the officials must consider that the key words are ‘the shot is DIRECTED‘ towards the goal and not directly at the goal. As long as the shot is located in the VICINITY of the goal, the ensuing face-off remains in the offensive zone.
• shot on goal that is deflected off one of the posts or the crossbar;
• shot on goal that breaks the glass;
• shot on goal that hits the goal netting and goes out of play;
• shot on goal that hits the boards or the glass and goes out of play;
• shot on goal that is touched or deflected by a teammate and goes out of play;
• shot on goal or end zone that gets stuck or lodged in the goal netting.
