Central Scouting publishes its final first round list for the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday May 5, 2016 – After having attended hundreds of games and scouted thousands of players during the last season, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Central Scouting published today the list of first round top prospects for the next Entry Draft which will be held in Charlottetown at the Eastlink Centre on June 4th.

The first round consists of 11 forwards, 5 defencemen and 2 goalies. The top pick is Benoit-Olivier Groulx from Gatineau with the Quebec AAA Midget League. Benoît-Olivier is a complete forward with leadership qualities. He’s able to score goals, is skilled at spotting a teammate which allows the game to progress. Furthermore, his play without the puck in the three zones is above average. Groulx was an important part of Team Canada in winning the silver medal at the Youth Olympics last February. The team that will select Benoît-Olivier will assuredly invest in a really good player.

Jared McIsaac is the number 1 prospect among defensemen of the 2015-2016 draft. This young complete defenceman certainly has the physicality and the maturity to become an excellent player in the QMJHL. His sense of play, his transition in the neutral zone and his first pass are important assets in his game. He’s hard to beat in 1 on 1 situations. His ability to separate the opponent from the puck makes him a more complete defenceman and he is more difficult to play against.
