Cedrick Desjardins stops 33 shots and leads the Océanic to a fifth straight victory, 3-2 against the Tigres
VICTORIAVILLE, Sunday November 14th 2004 (QMJHL) – In his first game since November 1st, goaltender Cédrick Desjardins stopped 33 shots and Sidney Crosby scored the eventual winning goal in the second period, Sunday afternoon, and the Rimouski Océanic got the best of the Victoriaville Tigres 3-2 in front of a crowd of 2714 fans at the Colisée des Bois-Francs.
The Océanic earned their fifth straight victory and completed a perfect week end, having won three games in as many days on the road.
On Friday, the Océanic had defeated the Drummondville Voltigeurs 5-1 before beating the Gatineau Olympiques 7-3 on Saturday.
Crosby beat Josh Tjordman for his 16th goal of the year at 6:24 of the middle stanza, which gave the Océanic a 3-0 advantage. It was Crosby's only point of the game.
Danny Stewart (9th), at 8:21 of the opening period, and Francis Charette (11th), at 1:48 of the second period, had previously found the back of the net for the Océanic.
The Tigres got alive in the second half of the second period when Francis Guérette-Charland (4th) and Gabriel Boies (4th) beat Desjardins in a lapse of only 48 seconds.
<b>Baie-Comeau 4 Lewiston 1</b>
In Lewiston, Michaël Dupont stopped 39 shots, including 18 in the final period, and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar surprised the MAINEiacs 4-1.
Alex Bourret spoiled Dupont's shutout bid by scoring his 15th tally of the season, while the MAINEiacs were playing one man short, at 7:03 of the opening period.
Benjamin Breault led the way for the Drakkar with one goal and one assist. Alexandre Blais, Mathieu Gravel and Jean-François Jacques, in an empty net, completed the scoring for the Drakkar, who are now tied with the MAINEiacs in fourth place in the Eastern Division with 24 points. The Drakkar have three games in hand.
<b>Shawinigan 2 Moncton 2</b>
In Moncton, Julien Ellis blocked 35 shots and he helped the Shawinigan Cataractes salvage a 2-2 tie against the Wildcats.
With the tie, the Wildcats have taken sole possession of first place in the QMJHL overall standings, one point ahead of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, who have played one more game.
Ellis was beaten only by Bruce Graham, who took advantage of power play opportunities in the second and the third period to register his 16th and 17th goals of the season. Ryan Salvis collected two assists.
Stefano Giliati (4th), after only 25 seconds of play in the second period, and Danick Bouchard (7th), 66 seconds after Graham's second goal, managed to beat Jean-Christophe Blanchard, who faced 27 shots.
<b>Val-d'Or 0 P.E.I. 3</b>
In Charlottetown, the P.E.I. Rocket collected one goal in every period and they defeated the Val-d'Or Foreurs 3-0.
David Laliberté opened the scoring with his 12th goal of the year at 4:24 of the first period. In the second stanza, he added an assist on Maxim Lapierre's 10th goal of the year.
Viatcheslav Trukhno (9th) completed the scoring midway through the third period.
Goaltender Jonathan Boutin stopped 19 shots and registered his first shutout of the season.
