Videotron Player of the Week | Mathis Rousseau (October 10, 2023)
The QMJHL’s latest Videotron Player of the Week is Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Mathis Rousseau. In three games, the 19-year-old from Boisbriand, Quebec went 3-0-0-0, recording a shutout, a GAA of 1.33 and a .944% save percentage for the Mooseheads.
On Wednesday night, Rousseau turned aside all 26 shots he faced to earn his sixth career QMJHL shutout as the Mooseheads defeated the Eagles 2-0 in Sydney. The third-year veteran played a key role in what evolved into a goaltending duel with the game remaining scoreless until midway through the third period.
Back home on Friday night, the Mooseheads rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit to earn a 5-3 triumph over the Victoriaville Tigres. Rousseau came up with a handful of key saves, including 10 in the third period, while his teammates worked to claim the lead. By the end of the night, he had kicked aside 22 shots.
On Sunday afternoon at home, Rousseau was a key factor in a low scoring game that once again featured a Moose comeback. Down 1-0 headed into the third frame, the Halifax offense came alive to earn the club its fifth straight victory, a 3-1 decision over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Rousseau would be named the game’s first star, steering aside 19 shots for the win.
Rousseau has yet to suffer a defeat since returning from training camp with the Arizona Coyotes last month, going a perfect 5-0-0-0. His other numbers are no less impressive, including a 1.20 GAA and .956% save percentage.
