Sea Dogs blank Titan for first preseason win
SAINT JOHN – Six different skaters found the net and Alex D’Orio turned aside 13 shots as the Saint John Sea Dogs shut out the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, 6-0, in preseason action Wednesday at Harbour Station.
Nicholas Cardone and Radim Salda had a goal and an assist each for Saint John. Anthony Boucher, Brock Perry, Cole Reginato and Cedric Pare also scored. Joe Veleno chipped in with two assists.
The Sea Dogs had two goals disallowed in the opening frame, but also got one that counted from Cardone nearly 13 minutes in.
Saint John added to its lead 94 seconds into the second on a goal by Boucher, who was acquired earlier in the week from the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Salda, a new import from the Czech Republic, made it a 3-0 game with four minutes left in the frame.
The home side poured it on late in the game with Perry, Reginato and Pare tallying in the final seven-and-a-half minutes of the third period.
D’Orio earned the shutout with 13 saves. Titan netminders Simon Boudreault-Belzile and Gabriel Waked combined to make thirty saves in defeat.
The attendance was 1,841.
Saint John’s next preseason game is Friday, August 25th, at 7 p.m. against Acadie-Bathurst at the KC Irving Regional Centre.
