Screaming Eagles Announce Roster For Main Training Camp
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have announced the roster for the main portion of its 2017 training camp following the QMJHL Rookie Challenge in Moncton.
Seven players that participated in the Rookie Challenge have been reassigned and will not be attending the main training camp, including defenseman Antoine Casimir who suffered a lower body injury at the event. Other players reassigned are forwards Gabriel Choinière, Alexandre Roy, and Jérémy Talbot along with defensemen Matt McKay, Ludovic Lefrançois, and Mikael Martel.
Thirteen players will be moving on from rookie camp to the main camp: Aaron Brown, Phillippe Casault, Tommy DaSilva, Ryan Francis, Brooklyn Kalmikov, Liam Kidney, Noah Laaouan, Ryan Maclellan, Jérémie Major, Jake Martin, Antoine Rochon, Nicolas Sauvé and Daniel Thompson.
33 players in total have been invited to the main training camp- four goaltenders, ten defensemen, and 19 forwards. There are a total of 17 returning full time players from the 2016-17 version of the Screaming Eagles. Three 20 year olds will be at the main camp- forwards Phélix Martineau, Jordan Ty Fournier, and defenseman Ross MacDougall. Two 2017 NHL draft picks are skating for the Screaming Eagles- forward Drake Batherson (Ottawa, round 4, #121) and defenseman Leon Gawanke (Winnipeg, round 5, #136).
Prior to the final selection of the team roster at the end of August, the Screaming Eagles will hit the ice for three exhibition games. Cape Breton will visit the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday, August 23rd, at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz. The club will then return to Cape Breton for a pair of games on the weekend- Friday, August 25th against the Halifax Mooseheads and Saturday, August 26th against the Moncton Wildcats. All three games are 7 PM starts, and the two home games will take place at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. Tickets for those two Screaming Eagles home games can be purchased at the box offices of the Wellness Centre and Centre 200.
