Scholastic Players of the Month | Owen Arnold Profile
Owen Arnold is currently in his rookie season in the QMJHL. He is a Grade 12 student enrolled at Sydney Academy, where he attends high school alongside many of his teammates with the Cape Breton Eagles.
For Owen, it’s an honour to have been named as the Eagles’ latest Student of the Month. It’s an acknowledgement of his academic success, which has come despite the challenges tied to the busy schedule major junior hockey players have.
“I take a lot of pride in school. As an athlete, it’s something that can get overlooked. This year, it’s been tougher to try to keep the marks up, being on the road all the time”, admitted the defenseman, who has a strong interest in math and sciences.
Owen sees the value not only in getting good grades, but also in forming relationships with classmates, learning life skills and setting the table for post-secondary education. He works on having strong relationships with his teachers, citing the help they have given him so far to make up for assignments and tests that have been missed due to his hockey commitments.
One thing is for sure; as long as Owen is in the QMJHL, he’ll continue working just as hard in the classroom as he does on the ice to achieve his goals!
