QMJHL Player of the Week | Tristan Luneau (March 13, 2023)
The latest QMJHL Player of the Week is Gatineau Olympiques defenseman Tristan Luneau. In three home games, the 19-year-old from Victoriaville, Quebec scored twice and added five assists as the Olympiques kept their impressive winning streak alive.
On Thursday night, Luneau notched an early second period goal before assisting on the eventual game-winning tally as his Olympiques squad defeated the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 8-2. The third-year veteran finished the game with a solid +3 rating.
The following night, the two clubs locked horns once again. This time, Luneau would produce three helpers, including yet another game-winning assist. Gatineau needed all the offense Luneau could muster in a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Sagueneens.
On Sunday afternoon, Luneau would run his personal point streak to 11 games in a key matchup against the Sherbrooke Phoenix. After recording a second period assist, he would find the back of the net in the third period of a 5-2 Olympiques win. This victory, the 18th in a row for the club, vaulted it into first place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the Phoenix. For his efforts, Luneau would be named the game’s second star.
The first overall selection at the 2020 QMJHL Draft, Luneau leads all defensemen with 74 points in 59 games this season. No stranger to accolades, Luneau, the reigning Defenseman of the Month in the Q, has now been named Player of the Week on three occasions this season.
