QMJHL Player of the Week | Jacob Goobie (March 28, 2022)
The latest QMJHL Player of the Week is Drummondville Voltigeurs goaltender Jacob Goobie. In three games, the 18-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia went 3-0-0-0, collecting a shutout to go with a GAA of 1.33 and a .956% save percentage.
On Wednesday night at home, Goobie was strong early on, stopping 24 shots, including all 15 he faced in the first two periods of the game as the Voltigeurs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 6-3. The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for Drummondville.
On Friday night in Baie-Comeau, the third-year veteran could not be beat. He stopped all 37 shots fired his way to earn his second career QMJHL shutout and first in a Drummondville sweater. Goobie would be named first star in the 4-0 triumph over the Drakkar.
Goobie would be named first star again on Saturday afternoon in Chicoutimi. His 26-save performance was spoiled by the Sagueneens lone marker with 14 seconds remaining in regulation. Nonetheless, both he and the Voltigeurs would earn their third straight victory with a 2-1 decision over the Sags.
Acquired by the Voltigeurs from Charlottetown during the holiday trade period, Goobie has notched 19 victories so far this season, with a GAA of 2.89 and a career-best save percentage of .902%. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the second round of the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft.
