Our 20s: Rimouski Océanic
Charle Truchon, Charles Savoie and Maxim Barbashev were honored as 20-year-old players at the end of the season by the Rimouski Océanic, who acquired them all before or during the 2023-2024 season.
Truchon was acquired from the Québec Remparts in June 2023, a few days after winning the Gilles-Courteau Trophy and the Memorial Cup with them.
Drafted in the second round, 20th overall, by the Remparts in 2019, Truchon spent four seasons in Québec City and currently occupies the seventh spot among defensemen in the concession’s history (new era since 1997) with 216 games played. His 68 points put him in 17th place.
Truchon, who registered a personal-best 46 points this season with the Océanic, will continue his career with McGill University, after a 283-game stint in the QMJHL (114 points).
Savoie also won the Gilles-Courteau Trophy and Memorial Cup with the Remparts in 2023.
The Sea Dogs’ second-round pick in 2019 was traded to Cape Breton in January 2022. Seven months later, he headed for Québec City, who traded him to Rimouski in January 2024.
Author of 106 points (26-80) in 226 QMJHL games, Savoie will play for the Concordia University Stingers next year.
As for Maxim Barbashev, he followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Ivan, by being selected by the Moncton Wildcats in the 2020 Import Draft (50th overall).
He played three seasons in Moncton, notably collecting 32 goals and 65 points in 2022-2023. Traded to Shawinigan in August 2023, he played just 15 games with the Cataractes before being shipped to Rimouski, with whom he amassed 26 points in 44 games.
Barbashev completed the 2023-2024 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the New York Rangers’ farm club, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2022. The Russian then signed a one-year AHL contract early August.
Best of luck to Charle, Charles and Maxim!
