Officials Crew of 2023 Gilles-Courteau Trophy Final
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League would like to congratulate the group of officials selected to oversee the highly anticipated 2023 Gilles-Courteau Trophy Championship Series. Comprised of eight referees and eight linesmen, this crew brings a remarkable combined 240 years of experience including 5,149 regular season games and 870 playoff games.

REFEREES
Samuel BERNIER (#26) – In seven seasons in the QMJHL, Bernier has officiated 214 regular season games and 20 playoff games. Bernier, who also referees at the American Hockey League level, is making his first appearance in the QMJHL Final.
Olivier GOUIN (#7) – Gouin just completed his 11th regular season, overseeing 300 games with an additional 61 playoff games. This marks his seventh consecutive selection for the league’s championship series. Gouin’s extensive experience also includes officiating the 2015 and 2016 Memorial Cup tournaments, where he reached the final in Red Deer in 2016.
Jesse GOUR (#19) – Participating in his first QMJHL final, Gour completed his seventh season in the League, officiating 167 regular season games and 18 playoff games.
Guillaume LABONTÉ (#17) – Labonté, in his 13 years as a QMJHL official, makes his seventh appearance in the League championship series. He has officiated 376 regular season games and 62 playoff games and was part of the 2017 Memorial Cup tournament officiating crew in Windsor, Ontario.
Jonathan LANGILLE (#12) – With 19 years of experience as a QMJHL referee, Langille can count on a solid background of 603 regular season games and 123 postseason games in his career. This year’s final marks his ninth appearance in the Q’s championship series. Langille was also part of the officiating crew for the 2012 Memorial Cup Tournament in Shawinigan.
Mario MAILLET (#21) – Maillet brings a wealth of experience to his tenth QMJHL Championship Series. With over 610 regular season games and 126 playoff matchups under his belt, he has been a League referee for 20 years and has also officiated the 2014, 2019, and 2022 Memorial Cup tournaments.
Brad MILLS (#21) – Mills, the most experienced referee in the group, has served in the QMJHL for an impressive 27 years, officiating 610 regular season matchups and 106 playoff confrontations. This marks his eighth Championship Series appearance, on top of his presence at the 2022 Memorial Cup event in Saint John.
Simon TARTE (#37) – Participating in his second QMJHL Final, Tarte has been a league official for 12 years, overseeing 380 regular season games and 49 playoff games.
LINESMEN
Nicolas BOIVIN (#5) – Boivin, freshly back from the U18 World Championship, is working in his second League Championship Series. With seven years of experience in the QMJHL, he has officiated 184 regular season games and 37 playoff games. Boivin also patrols the lines in the American Hockey League.
Justin BURCHELL (#49) – Returning for the sixth time to the League’s biggest stage after 18 seasons in the QMJHL, Burchell has officiated 393 regular season games and 70 postseason matchups. He was selected for the last two editions of the Memorial Cup, in Halifax and Saint John.
Maxime CHAPUT (#88) – Chaput completed his 14th season among the league’s officiating crew, having worked 390 regular season matches and 72 playoff games to this day. This marks his sixth consecutive QMJHL Championship Series appearance. Chaput was also part of the linesmen selected for the 2019 Memorial Cup that was held in Halifax.
Maxime DESJARDINS (#70) – Desjardins, after patrolling the lines for 328 regular season games and 46 playoff matchups in his 11-year QMJHL career, Desjardins now gets to take part in his second QMJHL Final.
Jay DOIRON (#55) – With 24 seasons among the league’s officiating crew, Doiron brings a wealth of experience. Having worked 478 regular season games and 141 postseason matchups, this marks his 11th League Final. Doiron was also selected for the prestigious Memorial Cup events in 2012 (Shawinigan), 2015 (Quebec City), and 2022 (Saint John).
Matt HICKS (#58) – Hicks is completing his 12th season in the QMJHL and this is his fifth appearance in the Championship Series. He has officiated 339 regular season games and 58 playoff matchups.
Sylvain LOSIER (#71) – Losier is the ultimate seasoned veteran with an exceptional career spanning 30 seasons in the QMJHL. He has worked 958 regular season games along with an impressive 228 postseason games. Losier has been selected for a total of 17 Championship Series and has made seven Memorial Cup appearances.
Philippe PILON (#57) – Pilon, in his eighth season wearing the QMJHL’s striped shirt, has overseen 219 regular season games and 33 postseason matchups. Additionally, he serves as a linesman in the East Coast Hockey League. This is Pilon’s second participation in the Q’s final.
