Moncton wins an OT thriller over the Armada
MOCTON NB – It was Star Wars night at the Coliseum as the Wildcats looked to rebound after a tough loss Friday night to Victoriaville.
Liam Murphy opened the scoring for the Cats at 11:05 of the first on a great feed from Dicarie to give the home team some early momentum. The score would remain at 1-0 after the first 20 minutes.
Moncton struck again late in the second on a power play goal by Manuel Wiederer for his 15th of the year! With a 2-0 lead headed to the final frame the Cats were unable to hold it, letting in two Armada goals to tie the game back up. The first coming at 5:09 from Morgan Adams-Moisan, and the next one from Pascal Corbeil at 13:37. Although Moncton had a late power play, they weren’t able to convert and this game was headed to overtime!
Only 0:53 seconds into the OT period Kelly Klima set up Malatesta from behind and with one move around the defender, Malatesta made no mistake finding the back of the net to give the Cats the win!! Tmej put on another strong performance in nets and was named first star of the game with 22 saves for the win.
This was the last Wildcats home game of the month before Christmas, they are back in action on December 30th vs. the Saint John Sea Dogs.
