Charlottetown Islanders get set to unveil jersey design contest winner
The Charlottetown Islanders will unveil a brand new third jersey for the start of the 2017-2018 season.
The process started when a jersey design contest was launched on May 1st, 2016 on the Islanders official website. Jersey designs could then be submitted for the next month.
Over 50 designs were entered by the time the contest closed. Here are a few of the entries:
Then, it was time for the Islanders office to filter through the entries and pick a final three.
When the three were launched on the Islanders website, fans could vote for their favourite. The winner would be used as a third jersey for the 2017-18 season.
In the end, 1953 votes were submitted in total.
After he found out he had won, the winner was shocked.
“So much time had passed since the fan vote that I figured another applicant must have been notified and the contest was over,” he said.
Now, he’s looking forward to seeing the jersey be used.
“It will be a little bit surreal to see them in action for the first time. I hope the players look forward to wearing them and I hope the fans embrace the new jersey when it’s available.”
The new jersey will include a completely new jersey design. The winner said the inspiration came from some of his favourite jerseys, as well as from parts of the province.
The Charlottetown Islanders will unveil the new third jersey in an opening ceremony before Wednesday’s game against the Moncton Wildcats. The contest winner will be in attendance to see his own design unveiled.
They will then wear the jersey in rotation for the 2017-18 season.
