73 players from the QMJHL among 2019-2020 NHL rosters
Boucherville, QC – The National Hockey League (NHL) revealed the rosters of its 31 franchises prior to tonight’s opening games. Among them, you can find 73 players who made their way through the QMJHL before playing in the world’s greatest hockey league.
Only the Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, New York Rangers and Washington Capitals have no QMJHL alumni among their starting lineups heading into the 2019-2020 season.
On the flip side, the Tampa Bay Lightning has an impressive total of six former QMJHL players within its core, the highest total of alumni for a single NHL squad. Closely following Tampa Bay are the Boston Bruins, the Florida Panthers, the Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets, who each have five players that once suited up in the Q.
At age 19, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defenceman Noah Dobson is the youngest QMJHL player currently playing in the NHL. While we definitely wish him a prolific career at the professional level, it is still a possibility that the Summerside, PEI native rejoins his Rouyn-Noranda teammates at some point this season since he’s still too young to suit up in the American Hockey League.
