30 QMJHL players invited to NHL camps
Since Saturday, the final day of the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft held in Las Vegas, no fewer than 30 QMJHL players have received invitations to attend NHL development or rookie camps.
Of the 32 NHL clubs, 14 issued invitations to our players. The Montreal Canadiens were the most active, with eight invitations, followed by the Minnesota Wild, with five.
The Boston Bruins extended three invitations (including two to their rookie camp to Tomas Cibulka and Lucas Romeo), while the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights decided to try out two QMJHL players each.
Most of the development camps take place this week. The Canadiens’ camp is notably being held at Complexe CN in Brossard until Friday.
If we add the 15 QMJHL players drafted this weekend, we can say that 45 representatives of our league have attracted the attention of NHL teams in recent days.
It now remains to be seen which of them will eventually be able to land a professional contract.
Last season, 1,022 players (forwards, defensemen and goaltenders combined) took to the ice in the NHL. Of these, 157 had never been drafted (15.4%).
Among skaters (924), 14.8% had never been drafted. Among goaltenders (98), the rate rised to 20.4% (20).
