A new trophy for the QMJHL
The Québec Major Junior Hockey League Commissioner, Mr Gilles Courteau, announced today the presentation of a new trophy that will be presented for the first at the Golden Pucks Award on Wednesday, April 2nd.
The Commissioner was happy to announce the presentation of a new trophy at the next Golden Pucks Award. This Wednesday will be presented for the first time the Jean Sawyer trophy that will be awarded to the best Marketing Director. «I am very glad of that new trophy named Jean Sawyer because he was the first director in 1969, with the Québec Remparts, to do all the marketing development in the QMJHL», said Gilles Courteau.
Jean Sawyer started first as a public relations coordinator for the Drummondville Aigles in the Québec Senior Hockey League from 1964 to 1966. Then he was the public relations coordinator with the Drummondville Rangers in the Québec A Junior Hockey League from 1966 to 1969. It is in 1969 that Jean Sawyer becomes, full time, the Information and Publicity Director with the Québec Remparts in the QMJHL until 1976. «It was great to work for the QMJHL with all these great hockey people like Maurice Filion, Paul Dumont, Guy Lafleur, Gilles Courteau and many more», said Mr Sawyer. «This trophy named in my honour is a big recognition and it was a great news when Gilles Courteau called me because in 1969, I left everything to work full time in hockey», concluded Jean Sawyer.
Finally, we will know the first winner of the new Jean Sawyer trophy, awarded to the best Marketing Director, this Wednesday April 2nd.
