Wildcats Back in the Win Column
The Moncton Wildcats snapped a mini two game losing streak by defeating the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3-2 Wednesday night at Centre 200. The win improved the Wildcats record to 27-20-2-4 including a 7-0 record against the Screaming Eagles this season. Daniel Pettersson scored his first goal since coming back from a wrist injury, Simon Jodoin and Thomas Flynn also scored for the Cats. Steve Gleeson stopped 28 saves for the win. Logan Shaw and Denis Kindl scored for the Screaming Eagles while Andrew Hayes recorded the loss stopping 21 shots.
Cape Breton got on the board early in the first period as Shaw scored on the powerplay at 2:35. That lead did not last long as Pettersson scored his 18th of the season at 5:39 tipping Charles Johnson’s low hard point shot past Hayes. The teams remained tied as they headed into the first intermission.
There was not much action during the second period, the Wildcats got the only goal late in the period. With the cats on the powerplay Jodoin snapped his 6th of the season home at 18:38.
The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-1 at 7:50 of the third period. Flynn was able to find the puck in a made scramble and slide it past Hayes. Kindl made it 3-2 at 11:08 as he was able to beat Gleeson to score his 21st of the season. The Wildcats took a penalty late in the game and with the Screaming Eagles on the powerplay they pulled their goalie for a two man advantage. However, they could not generate much of a scoring chance allowing the Wildcats to escape Sydney with a win.
The Wildcats now have a few days off to get ready for a showdown with the Saint John Sea Dogs Sunday at the Harbor Station game time is 4pm.
